Job Description:
Reading Partners is a national nonprofit that works to help students who need additional support in building strong literacy skills. We do so by collaborating with elementary schools and community members to deliver data-driven, one-on-one tutoring to students during the school day hours. We provide ongoing training, dedicated staff members, and an easy-to-follow curriculum that includes all of the books and materials needed for an effective lesson. Reading Partners has multiple partner schools around the Twin Cities. Below are the schools accepting work study students for the 2026-2027 school year:
- Prodeo Academy - 4141 University Ave NE, Columbia Heights
- Valley View Elementary - 800 49th Ave NE, Columbia Heights
Responsibilities:

Tutor a caseload of K-5 students (one-on-one) in reading using the Reading Partners curriculum

Assisting in preparing and organizing materials for the program implementation

Able to commit between 4-20 hours/week, for a minimum of one semester (school year commitment is preferred)
Wage: $15 per hour
Job Qualifications:
- Must be work study eligible.
- Willingness and eagerness to learn tutoring strategies
- Demonstrates patience and empathy for students while holding high expectations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team
- Ability to commit to a schedule and show up promptly when expected
Required Trainings (paid):

New Tutor Orientation: 2 hour training on the Reading Partners tutoring model

READ Act Training: 4 training sessions (2 hours each), focusing on the science of reading and the 5 domains of literacy. This is a Minnesota Department of Education requirement for anyone tutoring students in reading. Reading Partners will support work study tutors to find training times that work with their schedule. You have until the end of the school year to complete all 4 sessions.
Schedule:
Tutoring hours are tied to the schedule of our partner schools. Tutoring takes place in one hour increments Monday - Thursday 7:50 am and 2:30 pm (Thursday after school 2:30-4:00).
