This guide provides step-by-step instructions for connecting a macOS device to the eduroam Wi‑Fi network at NHCC. It includes verifying security certificates and an important note about disabling the randomized private Wi‑Fi address for reliable connectivity.
Instructions
Step 1: Open Wi‑Fi Menu
- Click the Wi‑Fi icon in the menu bar.
- Select eduroam from the network list.
Step 2: Enter StarID Credentials
- When prompted, enter your credentials:
- Students:
StarID@go.minnstate.edu
- Employees:
StarID@minnstate.edu
- Password: Your StarID password
- Click Join.
Step 3: Verify Security Certificate
- A certificate prompt will appear. Click Show Certificate.
- Confirm the certificate details:
- Issued to:
eduroam.metrostate.edu
- Issued by:
InCommon RSA Server CA 2
- If details match, click Continue.
- Warning: If values differ, do not proceed. This may indicate a security risk. Report it immediately.
Step 4: Confirm Connection
- Wait for your Mac to connect to eduroam.
- Confirm by checking the Wi‑Fi icon or opening Network Settings. It should indicate Connected.
Troubleshooting:
Disable Private Wi‑Fi Address
If you experience connectivity issues, check your Wi‑Fi privacy settings:
- Go to System Settings → Network → Wi‑Fi → Details for eduroam.
- Turn off Private Wi‑Fi Address (or “Random Hardware Address”).
- Apply changes and reconnect to eduroam.
