Eduroam - Configure Apple macOS Client

Overview

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for connecting a macOS device to the eduroam Wi‑Fi network at NHCC. It includes verifying security certificates and an important note about disabling the randomized private Wi‑Fi address for reliable connectivity.

Instructions

Step 1: Open Wi‑Fi Menu

  1. Click the Wi‑Fi icon in the menu bar.
  2. Select eduroam from the network list.

Step 2: Enter StarID Credentials

  1. When prompted, enter your credentials:
    • Students: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
    • Employees: StarID@minnstate.edu
    • Password: Your StarID password
  2. Click Join.

Step 3: Verify Security Certificate

  1. A certificate prompt will appear. Click Show Certificate.
  2. Confirm the certificate details:
    • Issued to: eduroam.metrostate.edu
    • Issued by: InCommon RSA Server CA 2
  3. If details match, click Continue
    • Warning: If values differ, do not proceed. This may indicate a security risk. Report it immediately.

Step 4: Confirm Connection

  • Wait for your Mac to connect to eduroam.
  • Confirm by checking the Wi‑Fi icon or opening Network Settings. It should indicate Connected.

Troubleshooting:

Disable Private Wi‑Fi Address

If you experience connectivity issues, check your Wi‑Fi privacy settings:

  1. Go to System Settings → Network → Wi‑Fi → Details for eduroam.
  2. Turn off Private Wi‑Fi Address (or “Random Hardware Address”).
  3. Apply changes and reconnect to eduroam.
